Go for : absolutely gorgeous rose shaped gelatos, in a cozy space, reminiscent of a Tuscan grandma's kitchen
Oh Budapest! What a gem you were. One of my favourite cities in the world, the charm of this Central European city is unmatched! Beautiful boulevards, charming cafes, restaurants and bistros, and gorgeous cathedrals, this city has it all. My absolute favourite eatery in the city though, has to be Gelarto Rosa. Having followed them on Instagram for a long time, it was a must visit on my trip. I had been mesmerised by all the videos they had posted of their gorgeous rose shaped gelatos, where each layer of rose petals was made using a separate flavour. And sure enough, I wasn't disappointed.
Located right on the boulevard leading to the magnificent St. Stephen's Basilica, this quaint dessert place is right in the middle of all the action in Budapest. As soon as I entered, I was dazzled by the delectable flavours on display! Trust me, it was a huge challenge to choose the flavours I wanted to try. I am an absolute sucker for fresh fruit flavours in desserts and there was such a huge choice here.

The second layer of the gelato rose being made with the Strawberry Elderflower flavour.
WHAT WE ORDERED
Ultimately, I and my family ended up getting 2 gelato roses made (3 flavours in each of them). We ended up ordering the following:
Gelato Rose 1
- Alphonso Mango (inner layer, because that flavour would be in the highest amount :P)
- Strawberry Elderflower (central layer)
- Basil Lemonade (outer layer)
Gelato Rose 2
- Raspberry (inner layer)
- Kiwi Banana (central layer)
- Sour Cherry with Buckthorn (outer layer)
THE AMBIENCE
'1950s grandma's kitchen from Toscana, Italy'. That's how Gelarto Rosa describes their interior. And from what I saw, yes indeed that's how the interiors have been designed. However, apart from the beautiful interior space, they also had the option of alfresco dining, which I definitely was more inclined towards. The outdoor space is beautifully done up, with chic wooden tables and chairs, and the entire space is propped up with beautiful plants and foliage all around.
THE SERVICE
The team at Gelarto Rosa is their true strength! Super friendly and accommodating, they made our visit a truly memorable one. The staff member who made my gelato rose, very sweetly made me try the flavours I was interested in and once she realised my affinity for the fruit flavours, she went out of her way to suggest a combination of 3 flavours which would not just taste great together, but also look gorgeous because she realised that I wanted my gelato rose to look incredibly beautiful. It was such a sweet gesture that she took such an interest in how the roses turned out. The entire team there was all smiles, making sure all the guests had a great experience. Thanks to Team Gelarto Rosa for everything!
We had such a fabulous time on our first visit here that on our last day in Budapest, when we had an evening flight on the same day, we ended up going back for one last visit in the morning. That's all that needs to be said about how great Gelarto Rosa truly was..
THE COST
Our bill came to be around 8 Euros for the 2 gelatos pictured above (4 Euros for each Gelato Rose, with 3 flavours in each)
ADDRESS
Budapest, Szent István tér 3, 1051 Hungary (It's a 2 min walk from St. Stephen's Basilica).
